Another great stay at Forbidden Corner stayed in the Littondale cottage with family next door in Wharfdale. The addition of The Saddle Room enhanced stay even more and we enjoyed Curry Night and a bar meal which were well presented and very tasty! The cottages have lots of room and are finished to a high standard. The shrieks of children and adults can be heard in The Forbidden Corner during the day which is great. The addition of the Mausoleum in The Forbidden Corner is brilliant as it takes you to Saddle Room for a little refreshment via the wine cellar before you re enter the gardens for more adventures.
Prices for a week in school holidays are very reasonable and include day for all inside attraction so one day of fun guareenteed. So much to do in this beautiful part of the country the Cheese Factory at Hawes and breweries at Masham a must and steam train from Leyburn is great.
- Stayed July 2014, travelled with family
My wife found the cottages while researching things to do in Yorkshire. We had planned to visit the Forbidden Corner on our trip and wanted to stay nearby. The photos online looked nice but I was pleasantly surprised to find the room was newly renovated and had nice modern touches. I believe we stayed in the Coverdale room. Though the cottage was only a very short walk to the entrance of the Forbidden Corner, it is tucked away to the side and was sheltered from any bustle of the park. The cottage also turned out to be quite central for exploring the dales. It was a short drive to Wensleydale (love the cheese), we visited the Black Sheep Brewery and several castles. Overall it was an excellent stay. Quiet, surprisingly stylish, comfortable and affordable. Highly recommended.
I’m not sure if the cottages are run by the same people as the Forbidden Corner itself, but they look lovely and are in a fantastic location. The Forbidden Corner is excellent- We don’t have kids and it was still a brilliant day out. Would recommend a visit to this part of the world and will certainly be going back soon.
Just returned from 2 nights in the ‘Nidderdale Apartment’. I honestly can’t rave enough about this place. But i’m going to try break it down! I travelled with my partner and my 3 year old toddler.
Location: Around 3 miles from the lovely village of Middleham and 20 minutes (ish) away from Masham, its a really lovely place to stay to explore the area. It’s also within the ground of The Forbidden Corner, yet set back enough to be away from the noise, but you can hear children’s shrieks after midday when it open but its a delight to hear and fills you with anticipation.
Cottage: EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN! Really they are, spotless. Set out lovely, well kept and done to a high standard. We had a double and a bunk bed room, a bathroom with shower, kitchen diner and living room. Entrance is stone floored with a shoe rack and coat hanger, cupboard which holds an ironing board, iron and hoover, leads to a kitchen with table to seat four, brand new appliances including washer! Living room had a small flat screen with dvd player, freeview included (which came in handy once toddler was in bed), seating for four again, there were a few books and some domino’s which gave toddler something to do while we unpacked. Bedrooms were clean, bedding was lovely, plenty of wardrobe and draw space. Bathroom was again spotless with 2 mirrors a FABULOUS shower. A lovely comfortable spot to rest your head after a busy day in the Dales!
The Forbidden Corner: This place is worth a visit in its own right. I am not going to spoil it but it really is ‘The Strangest Place in the world’!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Kept both me and my partner and my toddler entertained for hours.
Service: All the staff are welcoming and carry a huge smile. No complaints.
Overall: I will be booking again for next year, as i can imagine this place evolving and being a new favourite spot for me and my family. Would definitely recommend.
